U-Haul
We have used this company for our moving services and highly recommend them.
8 ft long - 240 cubic foot crates:
5 feet wide by 7 feet tall by 8 feet deep with swing door.
Benefits:
- Can "fit" easier where 16' containers cannot.
- For a smaller shipment, not paying for more room than you need.
- U-haul was the first rental company in the business and has great communications & customer service.
- U-haul even has a trailer that a client can pull this crate with a regular trailer hitch for about $10.
Drawbacks:
- Does not service all areas.
Door to Door
We have used this company for our moving services and highly recommend them.
8 ft long - 240 cubic foot crates:

- Door to Door was the first in the business to use this military crate idea for residential storage, local Western Washington storage only.

We have used this AFB product and recommend it over the ABF Trailers.
6 ft long - 336 cubic foot crates:
7 feet wide by 8 feet tall by 6 feet deep with swing door.
Benefits:
- Can "fit" easier where 16' containers cannot.
- For a smaller shipment, not paying for more room than you need.
- If you are using ABF we recommend using the Relo Cube which fits inside their containers for better protection.
Drawbacks:
- Does not service all areas.
PODS
We have used PODS during moving services and recommend this company.
16 ft long - 850 cubic foot containers:
8 feet wide by 8 feet tall by 16 feet long with roll-up door
Benefits:
- No driving on your part.
- Delivered to your driveway, self-load, picked-up & delivered to your new home or heated storage.
- If you are not sure where you are moving to, it can stay in your driveway or taken to heated storage.
- When moving your belongings to storage, only two moves instead of four, which means less opportunity for an accident.
- Their website will give you a real local moving quote with a driveway chart for positioning the container.
- The container is delivered with a special crane which never tips & can maneuver in tight spots.

- Does not service all areas.
PACKRAT
We have used and recommend this company.
16 ft long - 850 cubic foot containers:
8 feet wide by 7 feet tall by 16 feet long with swing-out doors
Benefits:
- No driving on your part.
- Delivered to your driveway, self-load, picked-up & delivered to your new home or storage.
- If you are not sure where you are moving to, it can stay in your driveway or taken to heated storage.

U-Haul Trucks, Trailers & Auto Haulers
We started with U-Haul in 1987, almost always the best price and availability.
15 ft long - 699 cubic ft
17 ft long - 855 cubic ft
20 ft long - 1000 cubic ft
26 ft long - 1400 cubic ft
Trailers 8' to 12'
Benefits:
- Oldest Truck & Trailer company in the industry.
- Most equipment of all companies.
- Only company with low cost trailers.
- About 20 years ago they started trading out all of their old trucks and replacing them on a rotating schedule.
- U-Haul has the lowest loading decks and shorter light-weight ramps for easier loading.
- Usually the least expensive rental.
Drawbacks:
- None
Budget Trucks & Auto Haulers
We have loaded and unloaded many.
24 foot long - 1400 cubic ft
22 foot long - 1200 cubic ft
16 foot long - 800 cubic ft
Benefits:
- Made a little more sturdy for hauling heavy freight.
Drawbacks:
- High loading deck, good for freight docks, but ground loading furniture is more difficult.
PENSKE TRUCKS & AUTO HAULERS
We have loaded and unloaded many.
24 foot long - 1400 cubic ft
22 foot long - 1200 cubic ft
16 foot long - 800 cubic ft
Benefits:
- Made a little more sturdy for hauling heavy freight.
Drawbacks:
- High loading deck, good for freight docks, but ground loading furniture is more difficult.
Semi-Trailer Companies 28 to 40 Feet Long
OD (Old Dominion) Freight Semi-Trailers
We have loaded many.
8 feet wide by 9 feet tall by 28 feet long:
72 cubic feet - per linear foot
Benefits:
- Long-distance hauling price is usually less.
- They charge by the foot you use, with a minimum charge of 6 feet.
- You don't have to drive.
- They come with a fold-out ramp.
Drawbacks:
- High loading beds with very long ramps, great for freight docks but tough to load & unload.
- Longer walk to the trailer because they need 40 feet of curb space.
ABF Freight Semi-Trailers
We have loaded many.
8 feet wide by 9 feet tall by 28 feet long:
72 cubic feet - per linear foot
Benefits:
- Long-distance hauling price is usually less.
- They charge by the foot you use, with a minimum charge of 6 feet.
- You don't have to drive.
- They come with a fold-out ramp.
Drawbacks:
- These are old freight hauling trailers and they bounce, a lot! I prefer ABF Relo-Cubes to their trailers.
- High loading beds with very long ramps, great for freight docks but tough to load & unload.
- Longer walk to the trailer because they need 40 feet of curb space.
